A Note From Ed

Dear friends and partners...I have so many things to share.. First and foremost, I am so sad to have another homegoing to report. Granny was so beloved, especially by the Lord. She was 83. She is dancing now! You will notice on page 3 that we are featuring her fantastic book, Mormonism, Mama and Me this month.

I am instituting some major changes at the ministry. Because of all the problems with lost or stolen mail in and orders out, we have arranged for Micahtek, the service company that manages our database, to handle our orders and order fulfillment beginning in November and that should guarantee us and you a more timely and consistent response to your ever growing needs. You will not have to do anything different. It will just be handled from now on by the "experts"

We have had so many requests lately for help with Jehovah’s Witnesses that I have included an article on how to witness to them! I hope it helps you. We have also featured a handy fold out booklet for your further study this month.

I have been receiving invitations to minister overseas in the year 2000 and I am praying about each one. They include key churches and pastors’ conferences in India, The Philippines and South America. A tight budget for each of these trips will be $3,500 and one that will allow me to leave translated training materials at each place I go will be $5,000.

The translation work has already started. And Good News! ACTION Ministries has already printed the Spanish edition of Fast Facts on False Teachings for distribution in South America. And work is going on to make our Website Multilingual!

I know you will all pray for me, but I am praying that some of you will help out with this important project in your finances as well. If the Lord touches your heart, would you send in an extra gift this month?

You know, I feel the time is growing short for us, that we are truly in the last days. I want to be at my post every hour, every day until He comes or until He takes me home, with every bit of my earthly and spiritual energy and strength. I want more souls for the kingdom this next year than in all the years we have labored until now!

I pray to God for a double portion of Zeal! It is time to be our very boldest!

Special Report

Granny Geer

Thelma

"Granny" Geer

1916 – 1999

Praise God for "Granny" Thelma Geer

I received word last week that my dear friend Granny Geer had gone home to be with Jesus. While I knew she was in deteriorating health, the loss to her husband, family and so many friends goes very deep. I know that my love for her was profound.

I met Granny at the very first Ex-Mormons For Jesus Conference in Phoenix in January 1979 and we became fast friends from that day on. She was my encourager, prayer partner, intercessor, a bold, passionate road warrior and mighty woman of God. She was not afraid to scold me if she felt I was not being bold enough or if she thought I was not making Jesus the center of some discussion.

She is in all our films and videos on Mormonism and often was the one to bring in a sacrificial gift to cover badly needed expenses during the creation of one of the films. You could always count on Granny to be at every conference, every event where she would be sharing Jesus with everyone from every bus driver to every waitress she encountered. She was truly a zealous witness for Christ in all that she did.

I once picked her up at the Atlanta airport for a conference we were attending and watched her witness to a half dozen people on the way out. These were the people who would enter into her witness zone. On the tram, on the escalator and at the baggage claim, if they stepped into her "zone" they heard the gospel preached. Her tremendous book, Mormonism, Mama and Me, written only as Granny could write, has turned so many thousands of lost souls on the path to heaven

I can’t imagine how many thousands of people will be in heaven because of her strong, powerful witness of her savior. During one of her illnesses, I cautioned her to stay home and rest for a season. She chided me sweetly and said, "Brother Ed, I’ll wait until I get to heaven to do the resting. Right now there are so many people out there who are lost. Every time I go out, someone else gets to go to go to heaven. How can I dare stay home." It was a lesson I never forgot. Her words have driven me out the door more than once when I desperately wanted not to go.

The Arizona Star did a feature article for Granny’s obituary.

Legendary missionary Geer dies at 83;
known to many as `Granny'

THE ARIZONA DAILY STAR

To the thousands who heard her message of salvation, she was simply "Granny" - resplendent in her pioneer sunbonnet and using her red Bible for emphasis. Thelma "Granny" Geer, who served 45 years as a missionary, died yesterday morning at age 83.

Jackie Wimberly said her mother was "quite a character, on fire for Jesus. She ministered with love and hope." Carmen Burson, who met Granny in 1980 and went on mission trips with her, said her message was kind and sincere.

"She came across as very loving in what she said. She was not offensive to people," said Burson, of Aztec, N.M.

Granny's strength as a missionary was her sincerity. "She would look them in the eye with those steel-blue eyes of hers, and say, ‘Jesus loves you.’ It was a loving sincerity - they knew she was telling the truth," Burson said. And she was persistent. "If she thought you were lost, she told you about Jesus. The Lord gave her boldness - and she used it," Burson said.

"I remember when we'd go to a restaurant to eat, on the way in and on the way out she would stop at each table and tell them that Jesus loves them and has a plan for their lives," she said.

"She was a real encouragement for me," said Burson, who like Granny left the Mormon Church and become a Baptist. `"I try to be a little bit like her."

In 1979, Granny wrote a still-popular book, "Mormonism, Mama & Me," which recounted her early life as a Mormon and being saved in January 1947 - one week before her husband, Ernest Geer, was also saved. Ernest, now 89 and Granny's husband of 62 years, worked his small farm to support his wife's missionary trips across the country and overseas.

The Geers were featured in an Arizona Daily Star series on the Baptist Foundation of Arizona that ran Sept. 26-27.

Granny was named a "Trophy of Missions" and spoke at the Southern Baptist Convention's national gathering in the 1950s, her daughter said.

Wimberly recalled one mission presentation where Granny left an audience of 2,000 sitting in a church and followed outside a listener who had left after becoming angry at her message. The crowd waited patiently inside while she quietly discussed her beliefs with the person outside, until she was satisfied the person was no longer angry with her and her message.

Martin King, public relations director for the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in Atlanta, said Granny's writings and mission work had a widespread impact.

Interment is planned for Wednesday at the Safford City Cemetery, Wimberly said. Her daughter said that Granny made it known that she did not want a solemn funeral, but rather a joyous graduation ceremony. So following the graveside service, a gathering of family and friends will be held at the Cactus Flat home where Granny was born March 12, 1916. The stone house is at 6140 S. U.S. 191, about five miles south of Safford, Wimberly said.

In addition to her husband and daughter, Granny is survived by grandchildren Jonathan Wimberly, David Wimberly and Merrily Wimberly, and great-grandchildren Daniel Wimberly-Smith and John Wimberly.

As recently as two weeks ago, Granny told a visitor that she was eager to again go out on the lecture circuit as a missionary for her church. But failing health ended that dream.Burson said that Granny's favorite Bible verse, Psalm 66:16, is a fitting testament to her life: ``Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.''

Follow-up on the tragic shooting at Wedgewood Baptist Church

By now almost everyone has heard of the tragedy that took place on Sept. 15, when a gunman entered Wedgwood Baptist Church and killed 7 people and injured 7 others before taking his own life.

That morning had been the day of "See You at the Pole," when students gather around their flagpole in the morning to pray for their school and

nation. What the media hasn't reported however, is how God has been so evident, both during and after the shooting. He has done amazing works!

Evidence of God's Control BEFORE the Shooting:

Our pastor, Brother Al, had prayed that God would do whatever it took to expand the ministry of Wedgwood Baptist Church. Our church is one that is used as a model of how NOT to pick a location, because no one in the world can find it. Now almost everyone in the world knows exactly where it is.

Evidence of God's Control DURING the Shooting:

To enter the church, the gunman walked past our children's playground, which should have been full of kids, but for some reason every single children's and preschool class was running late. No one had made it to the playground yet.

He fired over 100 bullets into a crowd of over 400, but only 14 people were hit.

He did not shoot the over 60 bullets he still had with him.

The bottom fell off of the pipe bomb he threw, and the bomb landed

One of the youth that was wounded (she was shielding a disabled friend with her body) has scoliosis. The curve in her spine directed the bullet away from major organs, saving her from serious injury.

Because the first 911 call came in on a police radio, emergency vehicles were dispatched immediately, without spending precious time to verify that call was real.

One of the people in the church at the time was a paramedic, and he was able to stop bleeding and stabilize injured people before the emergency crews arrived.

Leaders were able to get the children out of the building without the kids having to see any victims or any of the mess.

Each children's worker stayed with his/her class even though they all had children elsewhere in the building, and some had teens in the sanctuary. Not one worker left his or her post.

None of the adults who died have children.

All 7 victims were not just Christians, but bold Christians who were passionate about their faith. "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is not being done, the saving of many lives." (Genesis 50:20)

Evidence of God's Control AFTER the Shooting:

Many denominations have pulled together to offer help and support. One example is the United Methodist Church who sent 15 people the Sunday to cover our child care. They didn't want any church members to have to miss the service because they were taking care of the children.

A church in Tulsa, Oklahoma drove over 5 hours just so they could march around our church and pray during our Sunday morning services.

The Fort Worth Police Dept. planted flowers in the flower beds before we r-entered the sanctuary to worship.

We have received over 10,000 e-mails, 5000 cards, and $60,000 from all over the world.

Al Meredith, our pastor has had the microphone in his face continually and has over and over given an outstanding answer to the reason for our hope. He presented the gospel beautifully on Larry King Live when prompted by a question asked by Vice President Al Gore.

Because of the live news coverage and interviews, over 200 million people have heard the gospel because of this tragedy.

Fifteen thousand turned out for a community wide service at TCU Football stadium. Brother Al gave a very serious challenging message calling for a day of fasting and heart searching (Monday the 20th).

The service was broadcast live in its entirety on WBAP 820 which is a news station that covers most of north Texas. This same news station has replayed our pastor's first press conference due to people calling in and requesting to hear his comforting words again.

CNN also broadcasted the memorial service live. Amazingly, because one of the victim's families lives and works in Saudi Arabia, that country allowed the service to be broadcast there as well. In Saudi Arabia it is illegal to say the name of Jesus on the street.

Because of that same CNN broadcast, 35 people in Japan gave their lives to Christ.

When President Clinton finally got through to him, Brother Al ended their conversation by praying, after gaining permission, for the Clinton family.

At several schools, students met around their flagpoles the next day. At one school 25 students accepted Christ, and 110 at another.

A teacher led 22 students to Christ in her classroom.

Christian teachers all over North Texas have been able to share with their classes because the students are asking questions about their teachers' faith.

In Burleson, prayers and Scripture are being said over the intercom.

On the east coast, where "See You at the Pole" was delayed because of the hurricane, record numbers of kids showed up to pray.

Governor Bush and the Fort Worth mayor quietly came to our pastor's home while the staff were meeting and praying and joined in the prayer meeting. This was not political! Only those who are close to staff members heard about this; the media never knew.

Governor Bush has visited with our pastor several times, and Brother Al has had an impact on him. Just think of the influence our pastor could have if he becomes President.

A caller to an area radio station said that he didn't know what those people had but he wanted it. The DJ proceeded to lead him to Christ on the air.

Many notes left in front of the church contain the same sentiment. Those who don't know Jesus want what we have!

The church has received so many e-mails asking us how we are able to have hope and continue on. There are teams of church member volunteers responding to these e-mails.

My friend Jodi has been praying for her husband for years. She and their 4-yr-old daughter were at the church that night. Three days ago Scott gave his life to Christ.

We have had over 70,000 hits on our web page which displays the plan of salvation in multiple languages.

Many members at Wedgwood Baptist are healing broken relationships within the body and experiencing spiritual renewal.

These are just a few of the miracles that are happening. God's grace is almost overwhelming. Every time the gunman fired a bullet, he intended to take a life. Yet God turned that around and saved several lives for each bullet fired. The faith of those who died has been multiplied many times over.

"I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you,

because your faith is being reported all over the world." Romans 1:8

Witnessing to

"the Witnesses"

By Ed Decker

It’s a rare door that hasn’t felt the knock of the Jehovah’s Witnesses more than once and it’s an even rarer Jehovah’s Witness who has heard the gospel message at one of those doors from the resident Christian.

The reason is simply that it is a far from simple task to witness to a Witness. It’s easier to just close the door and avoid the difficult task of sorting through a maze of confusing doctrines. Let’s try to make it a bit simpler.

There are five important facts to remember about the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Watchtower Organization.

1. They have accepted the Organization as the Prophet of God.
2. They have accepted the Organization as God’s sole channel for His truth.
3. They believe that to reject the Organization is to reject God.
4. They believe that only the Organization can interpret the Bible; as individuals they are unable to do so.
5. They believe the Watchtower Magazine contains God’s truth, directed by Him, through the Organization.

What does the Organization and Watchtower Magazine teach that is in conflict with Orthodox Christianity?

1. That Jesus is a created being/a creature.
2. That Jesus is actually Michael the Archangel
3. That Jesus was not resurrected bodily, but as a spirit being.
4. That Jesus returned invisibly in 1914 (secretly to the Organization)
5. That Jesus was only a man when on earth, not the Word Become flesh.
6. That the Holy Spirit is only an active force, not the person of God.
7. That Hell is simply the grave.
8. That Heaven’s doors is open to only 144,000.
9. That the majority of Witnesses must remain on earth.
10. That salvation is found only through the Organization.
11. That it must be maintained by energetic works for the Organization until the end when one may merit eternal life on a paradise earth.
12. That Satan is the author of the doctrine of the Trinity.
13. That Jesus cannot be given worship, but only honor as Jehovah’s first creation.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe or teach some of the very basic tenets of Christian doctrine.

They deny what The Bible Teaches as Truth...

1. That God exists in a Trinity of three eternal and coequal persons:

Father: "To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be Saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 1:7)

Son: "Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28)

Holy Spirit: "Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God." (Acts 5:3,4)

"For there are three that testify" (1 John 5:7)

2. Jesus is no less than God in human flesh

"For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity

lives in bodily form" (Colossians 2:9)

3. God, the Holy Spirit, is the third member of the Holy Trinity

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," (Matt. 28:19)

"While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." (Acts 13:2)

4. Jesus Christ rose bodily from the grave

"The Jews replied, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?" But the temple he had spoken of was his body." (John 2:20,21)

"Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have." (Luke 24:39)

5. Jesus is visibly coming again to set up His Kingdom on earth

"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory." (Matt. 24:30)

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)

"Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen." (Rev.1:7).

6. Salvation is in the person of Jesus Christ

and comes through faith in Him.

"They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved —you and your household."(Acts 16:31).

7. It’s the work of God for man, not a work of man for God

"But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior" (Titus 3:4-6).

8. Jesus was and should be worshipped

"A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe."Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!" (Jn.20:26-28)

"When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route." (Matt. 2:10-12)

"Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God." (Matt. 14:33)

Witnessing to a Witness.

We need to remember that anyone who denies the full divinity of Jesus Christ and carries the heavy burden of a false, religious spirit is going through a lot of highs and lows. True believers, empowered by the companionship of God, the Holy Spirit have a constant presence of the Lord about them that seems to act like a magnet at times.

When a Watchtower member comes to your front door and you open it, what are they thinking about? What do they think when you talk about Christianity? First, it’s impossible to offer them any hope of heaven

It doesn’t matter what the Jehovah’s Witnesses believe about Jesus. One day, every single one of them, including every leader who perpetuated this gross heresy, will have to meet the Master. On that day, "every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Whether it’s at the banqueting table of joy or at the great white throne judgment of the damned, every knee will bow.

Our prayer as Christians is that God would open up the hearts and minds of these people who are ensnared in this foolishly created, man-made system and organization, as they believe the lie and try to earn their salvation through the watchtower, apart from Jesus Christ. We pray that they would come to know the triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who loves us and desires that we come into a personal relationship with Him. We pray for the lost members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, people ensnared by lying leaders.

The Word of God says : "Those who guide this people mislead them, and those who are guided are led astray." (Isa. 9:16) The King James Version says that they are destroyed. What an ignoble end for a misled people who only seek to serve God. What a tragedy.

We thank God for Jesus Christ, who took our sin and nailed it to the cross and covered it with His shed blood as the infinite payment, the eternal lamb of God once for all time. We thank the Lord for the Holy Spirit, who comes and lives in us and gives us new life. To God be the honor and glory and praise.. We worship Him alone and we thank you, Lord we love you, Lord. "Father, Son and Holy Spirit."

Dear Ed, I read in your book Fast Facts On False Teachings that you were a Mormon for 20 years or so. I have friends that are Mormons, and I feel for them very deeply I also have friends that are Masons, I want so bad to help them but I don’t know how to go about it, PLEASE help!

We were happy to send you the info you needed!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Ed, When Joseph Smith told of his having an angel named Moroni come in to his bedroom at night in a shaft of light several times, how could that be in the very small house where they lived? Any Mormon other visitor who sees that small little house when they come to the Hill Cumorah Pageant would know that with the size of their family, Joseph Smith could never been sleeping alone in that tiny bedroom. It would be an impossibility for some angel to come in some shaft of light like he describes and not wake up every person in that house, let alone the others who obviously had to sleep , probably in the same bed with Joseph! This is just folly and midnight imaginations,
Alvin.
Right On, Alvin! I never thought of that before..
Dear Ed, My mother is a member of the Eastern Star. My brother and I have known for years that it is an organization hiding under the cover of Christianity. We do not discuss it with her because it causes a wall to come up between us, and she will not talk about it. Mother believes it is Christian because she says they do good. She is a Southern Baptist which makes it even harder. She says she will have their rites at her funeral. She is 82.
Recently my uncle, her brother, died at 91. The Masons were supposed to have the rites at the gravesite, but since it rained, they performed them inside the church. I almost got up and left! It was so sacrilegious! They repeated the words, "So mode it be" (I think that’s what it was.) over and over like in a pagan ritual. You probably know what it means. I don’t. I cannot stand the thoughts of having to endure that at my mother’s funeral. Can I leave when that part comes? Can I ask them to do it after we have our own little graveside service? If it rains, can I get up and walk out if they do it in the church? What shall I do? I need a plan. None of my family wants to endure that either.
Do you have any idea of a way I can submit the Truth to my mother, without making her angry? In past years the Southern Baptists have made some very strong statements against evil, and some strong statements for Truth, but they will not make them against Freemasonry and their related organizations. It’s unbelievable! God’s people are opening up their doors to Satan and inviting him into their sanctuary. ... In Christ, Helen
Dear Helen...Your story is like so many others... We can help and I will be sending you material to do battle with for both your church and your Mother’s freedom - Ed
By the way, You can read about the Masonic funeral and its pagan roots in my book, What You Need to know about Masons, for sale in the Online bookstore.
Hi Ed, Love that you wore Holy Temple clothes to the fair in Washington. Do you still have a problem with your family? You have attacked The Church so much that you are telestial bounded. I talk to Dick Baer, the other Satan on the telephone all the time. He is a nice Man, but you are not. This is my opinion. You must apologize to President G. B. Hinkley. I dare you to write me back, you wont because you are a liar like your friend Bob Larson. You tell Lies about LDS. Bye you False Prophet!
The following letter from a Mormon teenager is quite lengthy, but I was impressed to publish it, unedited, and spend some time to answer it in its entirety. It is a classic example of the LDS mindset. Taylor is truly sincere in what he says and believes; yet he is operating from a faulty base that skews his logic. Read on and see what you think… My responses are in RED
hello ed,
First off let me allow you to know that I am a Mormon, I have entire life. But do not immediately assume "well of course he is going to argue against me, he has been brainwashed for so long" I am 17 years old and definitely decide where I go every Sunday. I notice that the vast majority of your newsletter is dedicated to discrediting the Mormons. I think that’s just fine. I am all for freedom of speech and expression.
But, first off I would like to know if Mormonism is wrong [yes] and is a very laughable [your words, not mine] choice for a faith, explain to me why there are approximately 11 million people who don't seem to think so? [You try to convert the Southern Baptists, a church that has over 16 million members. That must make them righter than you. There are about a billion Muslims, whom you also try to convert. What do numbers have to do with truth and error?]
You compare Mormonism to Satanism, vampires, free masonry, [There is no question that if the god of Mormonism, who is an exalted man, is not the God of the Bile, he is the imposter. Call him by any name and he is still the imposter. Freemasonry has been proven to be the basis of the LDS temple ceremony, and the first 5 Prophets of the church were Masons] pretty much everything ugly in the world. [Again, your words, not mine] You try and find anything remotely sounding like a Mormon person or idea.
I am not your typical Mormon from Utah, sure I was born there, but I have never lived there. I have lived in Hong Kong most of my life and a few other asian countries. I go to Utah every summer and every other winter because my relatives live there. I say this because people from Utah are often pretty ignorant about their own religion. [Your words, not mine] But hey most Christians are anyway. [Now who is being nasty and judgmental?]
Anybody can twist the scriptures to mean anything you want. [That is the exact point I have been making about much of the LDS theology. Thanks]
The fact remains that much of the bible has been completely mistranslated by scholars a long time ago. [That is not a fact; it is a false teaching of Mormonism.] This fact is completely accepted. [No, it isn’t.] Everybody knows that. [No, they don’t.]
Her is another point, did not Jesus himself say "Other sheep I have which are not of this fold, them also I must bring and they shall hear my voice and there shall be one fold and one shepherd." [Yes and He did go to them and bring them into the fold. They were the gentiles. And he sent forth the apostles to continue doing did just that.]
Mormons believe that Jesus was referring to the Nephites in the American Continent as it was in approx AD 33. [We know that, but history, anthropology and everything that has been revealed about Meso-America has proven that to be in error.]
Where in the scriptures does it say that the only people with the gospel were the people in Asia Minor? [Where in the scriptures does Jesus say he is going to a Jewish people living in South America, or any other continent? Don’t you realize that the historicity of the New Testament age debunks this whole story?]
Why is everyone so closed to the idea that perhaps the Jews were not the only people at the time that knew about Christ. [They weren’t.] There were millions of people in the world! [Do you have the census figures? Millions?]
Why is it impossible to conceive that perhaps Jews left jerusalem and there family past down their beliefs to their children and eventually you have a section of the world where they wait for the messiah just like the Jews inside Jerusalem? [Show me the beef! There is evidence of the spreading of the people and tribes among the Jews across the then known world. Why would the only place the Mormons have picked out for their Jewish society and the visitation of Christ not have an ounce of evidence or documentation to support it??…Except that is, documentation of your own creation?]
Find me one scripture anywhere in the bible stating that the only place the true word of Christ is taught is.....[Is what? Again, You are the one with a phantom Jewish society without a single word in the Bible or the history of the Jews to support it. Everywhere the Bible talked about the Jewish people settling, there is full evidence and proof. You have none. Even the Anthropology Dept. at BYU has stated that in print.]
When Christ lived did you see him wasting his time poking fun [poking fun is your word, not mine] at other religions? Jesus spent his time preaching the true word and never once is quoted as saying that this sect is wrong and here are some documentation proving it. [You must have not read much of the teachings and actions of Christ. Here is just one of the times that He was doing exactly what you claim He never did. I especially like verse 15, as He is taking about false missionaries]
Matt 23:13-33
13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
17 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
19 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
21 And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
22 And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?(KJV)
Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints the "fastest" growing church in the world? [It isn’t. IN fact, it is far from that, growing only at the rate of less than 3%/year in the USA. In Brazil alone, the annual growth rate [numbers of converts] of the Assemblies of God has been greater than the entire LDS worldwide growth, in numbers. Then they must be the only true church. Right?]
If you did statistics on Mormons leaving the church you would find that the ratio of mormons leaving as opposed to joining is overwhelmingly low. [Actually, that is not true either. If you look at the church statistics for conversions, birth rates and church activity, it would prove out that you lose about 50% to 75% per year in those coming in and those leaving.]
What has anti-mormon media done to the church? Lets see hmmmmm it has pinched the church nothing more. [It has awakened tens of thousands of people to the darkness of false doctrine and false leaders. Even if it is for just one soul set free, the work is worth the effort.]
When you go to the judgement bar of God and plead that you have spent your life in his service what are you going to tell him assuming my church is wrong after all "Well I spent my life driving away people from a church instead of focusing my efforts on bringing people to the gospel" [That is hardly where I am going and hardly what I will say when I see the Lord. I am set free in and through Christ, not by my works of the flesh, which are only of the flesh. Read the doctrines of Christ and the apostles. See what they say. And I am going to be having dinner with the King, not standing at that white throne judgment you speak of. See Revelations 20. It is talking about the judgment of those dead who were not in Christ. You are welcome to that judgment]
Do you think God prefers you spend all your time trying to drive away the sheep of a fellow shepherd you happen to disagree with, or spending your time searching for the lost sheep and bringing them back to the fold? [First, Those sheep I seek have been stolen from the flock by a deceptive, false church. Your Bishops and leaders are NOT fellow shepherds. Why else do you go door-to-door seeking Presbyterians and Baptists and try to convince the sheep of those shepherds to leave their flock and join yours? What true, blind hypocrisy!]
thats what I thought? [What do you even know about me? Do you know that I am a Care Pastor in my home church? That I visit the hospitals and pray for the sick? That I work bringing food to the hungry, that I am a Christian counselor, helping people in their lives and marriages? Visit the prisons? Lead Bible studies? You have not one clue as to who I am.]
As I said Jesus spent none of his time pointing out the follies of other faiths [you are terribly wrong.] he simply taught the truth as he saw it and people recognized the spirit in his words and followed accordingly? [Have you ever read the New Testament on your own without having an LDS teacher explain it to you?]
Obviously if 11 million people claim to feel the spirit in the words of the bible and the book of mormon there must be the spirit in both works and both are considered the word of God. [Ergo, the same must be truer for the Baptists since they have so many more members and part of their truth is that Mormonism is a cultic, false religion.]
Another point as I said before it is very hard to unconvert a Mormon. [Not true. Except for dealing with a strong religious spirit and the unbiblical burning in the bosom test, it is really easy. You just can’t win many arguments. You have to deal with a spiritual bondage in the spiritual realm.]
If this is true [It isn’t] then that also says that the majority of the church have found the truth. [They haven’t]
Because is it easier to let go of the truth or a elaborate fabrication? I would say the latter. If Mormonism is some elaborate story that was thought of by Joseph Smith why in the hell [nice talk] would 11 million people cleave to it? [It is called deceptive teaching and spiritual blindness. Still having trouble with numbers, aren’t you?]
The problem is that people can make fun of Mormons [we don’t make fun of Mormons. They have a love for God, but not according to knowledge (Romans 10). They are wonderful people. Wonderful…even you, Taylor] without insulting what "they" call the true faith. Mormons cannot fight back and point out half as many errors [What does that mean?] as the foundation of their religion is based on the same ideals that you believe in. We just believe there are serious errors in many of the faiths beliefs. If I wanted to point out weaknesses in the lutherans, or methodists, or baptists I could pull things out of the air. [You don’t have to do that, just use the LDS Missionary Training program or read them Joseph Smith’s First Vision scripture that says all their creeds were an abomination in his sight.]
Example most christians believe that revelations and prophecies and visions stopped with the apostles. Where in the bible does it make that statement? Do not quote the scripture in revelation stateting that whoever adds to this work is committing a sin [not what it says] I know that one but that can be interpreted to mean the entire bible or the book of revelation exclusively. [Hey, I don’t want to burst another bubble for you, but when Joseph Smith rewrote the Bible (The Inspired Version) he added, subtracted and rewrote both the Bible itself AND made many dozens of changes to just the Book of Revelations, itself.] This is what God’s Word says about Joseph Smith:
Rev 22:18-19
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. (KJV)
It does not say anywhere that revelations and visions, and prophesies stopped with the apostles, yet most of the so called "christians" believe as such. If you must continue in your so called "work" at least point out the many things in mormonism that is stressed that is not necessarily emphasized in the so called christian world. Like missionary work, genealogy, and that the family is the most important unit in the world.
Another disadvantage to the work you are doing is say Mormonism is the right way do you think the lord is going to be too happy that you tore people away from the true faith [It is not the True Faith, but a pathway to a Christless eternity for its followers.] You lose no matter which faith turns out to be correct.
The lord does not ask us to spend the vast majority of our time convincing everyone that a certain faith is the right way. [Excuse me???? What are the more than 50,000 Mormon Missionaries doing out there???]
An interesting fact is if you look of lutherans, or judaism, or Islam, on the internet the first results you get are things like "an outline of the beautiful faith of judaism, or my conversion to lutheranism. Look of mormonism and lo and behold "10 ways to prove mormons wrong, my conversion "from" mormonism, and your site was in the first 10 sites. Why is that? [Because almost everyone else in the world understands that Mormonism is a deviant form of orthodox Christianity.]
I'm sure the lord does not inspire the work of proving the mormons wrong. I'm sure the lord is happy when you make a website or newsletter proclaiming how you discovered Jesus and came to the fold. I am sure he is happy when one of his sons and daughters thinks they have found the way. [Just thinking they have found the way has led more than one person to hell. Is the Lord pleased if a Jehovah’s Witness thinks they have found they way? The LDS church recognizes them as a false faith.] The Lord loves everyone so lets leave it at that. [Goodness! you want us to close down shop while your church still fields tens of thousands of missionaries. Sorry!] Why can't we agree to disagree and just let people read the facts for themselves. [I agree. Let people listen to your missionaries tell them that God finds orthodox Christendom filthy in His eyes and let us tell people that they are lying to them. OK?]
Your facts are distorted, taken out of context, and quite often humorous reading to my friends. Here is your facts "A farm boy in his teens from backwoods New York, with no education. Wrote the book of mormon which is very well written and is entertaining based on just the stories. The said book is an elaborate story that does not contradict the bible about civilizations in Ancient America and their dealings with the lord. [Let’s not even go there. I can prove that the Book of Mormon is corrupt scripture on the very first page.]
Our facts "God inspired a boy to find an ancient record of a people who lived long ago. God inspired the boy to translate the record into English using the urim and thumim tools used by seers as a way to translate through God, the book of mormon comes into existence. [God does not nor has He ever used methods of witchcraft to do His work. By your own testimony, this book is the fruit of witchcraft.] I know this e-mail is really long, but I am almost done. [I sure hope so.]
If you wish to have a barely considerable argument against the mormons if that is what you wish to spend your time doing at least compare the good with the bad, have Mormons point out where you have falsely interpreted a statement. [Show me] Get the real truth about mormonism you will find that after all your arguments have been sorted through and sifted there will not be anything that makes very good argument against the mormons. [That is not so, not even close. After having researched it for almost a quarter of a century, compared notes and findings with Bible scholars, other researchers, spent 19 years AS a Mormon and spoken to many tens of thousands of Mormon people, and having read all the LDS scriptures many times and the writings of its many leaders, I have a strong case that Mormonism is not a Biblically based religion.]
In Fact, Your very own leaders agree with me. Robert L. Millet, Dean of BYU Religious Education said this in a BYU Devotional in the Marriott Center, February 3, 1999.
"AS we have already noted, we love the Bible and cherish its messages. But the Bible is not the source of our doctrine or authority, nor is much to be gained through efforts to prove the truthfulness of the restored gospel from the Bible.
Ours is an independent revelation. We know what we know about the premortal existence, priesthood, celestial marriage, baptism for the dead, the postmortal spirit world, degrees of glory, etc., because God has made known through latter-day prophets, not because we are able to identify a few biblical allusions to these matter."
[Wow! The reason behind his statement is that you have a religion that sets aside the doctrines of Christ and the Bible and you rely on false prophets who have set aside doctrines of God as given us in the Bible.]
In just one case, the nature of the invisible God, the Bible condemns Joseph Smith and Mormonism:
Deut 13:1-5
1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
4 Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.
5 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee. (KJV)
I ask you to pray to God earnestly to give you a sign that what you are doing is truely sanctified by Jesus. [A sign???? How about the Word of God??] I swear that if you can truely verify that you have been truely inspired that you should continue the work, I will reconsider my religion. [Thank you. Please reconsider your religion] But I know you will find no such witness and if you do think you have found it, it is either a feeling you have mistaken for God's truth or a vision of Satan as an angel of light. [Joseph Smith described Moroni as an angel of light. Bruce R. McConkie said the angel of light is the devil]
If you find no sign I would suggest spending your time bringing the non christians to the light. [Mormons are non-Christians by their own leaders testimonies.] If you find fault in any of my writing I urge you to point it out and I will correct any misconceptions you might have. Do what you think God would want you to do. [I have done so and I leave your email address here so others can talk to you as well. Even some Mormons will be doing that.]
Thats something most people are not doing. I ask you to reply to my letter I have taken the time to write you please take at least 10 minutes to write back. [It has hardly been ten minutes and I have posted your email in its entirety] I love you regardless of who you are. [Thanks, Taylor… I know you have a heart for the Lord and appreciated having you spend the time to write.]
